WHAT ITEMS ARE NEEDED FOR PUPPY?
Before picking puppy up you will need a harness, leash, and a crate for sleeping. Puppy will need the correct brand of food (see below) after your take home 5 day supply runs out. We strongly suggest a playpen or safe gated area for puppy when owner cannot be with puppy. Crates are small and used for overnight sleeping. We also strongly suggest continuing to potty train with the grass pads, as it will likely make the whole training process significantly faster and easier.
We will send you home with a 5 day supply of this puppy food. If you want to change the brand of food, please wait for at least 3 weeks after coming home with you new puppy. Then only do so gradually, over the course of 7 days.
Puppy needs a harness and leash. Collars are not safe for Mini Cavapoos, because their necks can be easily injured. Instead we use a dog harness. Each brand is sized differently ,but our puppies usually fit best in size XXS. The puppies tend to be 2.5 - 3.5 lbs when they go home.
PLAYPEN
or GATE
A play pen keeps puppy safe, and provides more space than a crate. Another option is to gate off a safe area in your home (kitchen for example.) Keep the area free from anything you don't want puppy getting into or eating. Consider keeping a puppy turf and a small bedding area for puppy in the playpen. Suggest a height of at least 30 inches, with only vertical slats or acryllic. Puppies can be surprisingly good climbers.
CRATE TRAINING
We do not crate train pups here as they are together with Momma dog and siblings. However, we highly recommend crate training for sleeping. Using a crate with a divider panel is especially helpful as you can expand the space as your puppy grows. Initially, pups only need enough space to comfortably lay down. This helps them with potty training only outside the crate/sleeping area.
If puppy goes to the bathroom in the crate, be sure to provide fresh bedding. A towel can be used for bedding if needed. Never let puppy sleep in soiled bedding for sanitary reasons, and it will interfere with potty training. It's also helpful for the dog to be able to safely sleep in a crate for a future dog sitter, or when traveling together.
One way to train the puppy in the crate for bed time is to keep the crate on (or roght next to) the bed with owner the first night. After a few nights, move the crate further away from owner, but still in the same room. Then a few nights later, move the crate just outside the bedroom door. Gradually move the crate to its best location in your home. Puppy will not love the crate at first, but it can become a safe sleeping space puppy can genuinely get used to.
POTTY TRAINING
Your puppy has been trained to use the grass pad. Pups go home using this grass pad at least 80% of the time. The goal is for puppy to go outside. But when in the home if you would like to continue to train puppy on the grass pad, here are some helpful hints.
Always keep a grass pad within sight of puppy. Esp. when in a playpen or gated into a safe space. If puppy keeps going in a certain area of the house, be sure to thoroughly clean that area with the Angry Orange (or similar enzymatic cleaner) Odor Eliminator. Puppies tend to go where the scent exists. Keep the scent only on the grass pad. you can use the "Go Here" spray initially.
The idea is to keep every area very clean, except the grass pad. It is much easier to clean up after puppy with the grass pad, than randomly throughout the home. This also continues to reinforce the idea that there is a certain place to go to the bathroom. You can even bring the grass pad ouside to the actual grass to keep training puppy. There will be some transition, but once puppy is consistently using the grass pad, you can also spray your grass pad with Angry Orange to reduce the scent in your home. Grass pads can be cleaned with dish soap by hose or in the bath tub. Vinegar also can be used to clean grass pads.
When buying a grass pad, look for multiple hemmed grass pads, and a grid tray. Suggested size of 16 x 20 inches or bigger.
We provide these toys to teach the pups to chew on toys, instead of other things. Puppies are teething. We discourage playful chewing on fingers or any other items in order to create good long-term habits.
PET STEPS
Even as adults, our dogs are quite small. As a way to protect from back injuries and/or broken bones - train puppy to not jump off furniture. Discourage jumping out of the car from the seat, but rather go to the foot area of the car first. Stairs can be used to help create healthy habits.

GROOMING SUPPLIES
Many owners choose to bring their dog to a groomer.
If you should choose to groom your own dog, here are some of the supplies we use for grooming.
ELECTRIC FENCE
The electric fence does not need to be buried. Puppy is small enough to escape under or through many outdoor fences. This is an option to consider to help keep puppy safe in your yard. Puppy still needs to be watched for protection from predator birds.
